LibCloud: A Private Digital Library Resource Cloud

M.N. Rajaprabha

Abstract

Cloud Computing is a model which enables convenient access to a shared pool of resources on demand. Nowadays people rely much on resources available in the form of electronic data rather than the printed form. Digital Libraries plays an important role in providing electronic resources to the users. Digital Libraries all over in the world suffer with common problems like flexibility associated with the digital resource, lower levels of efficiency and huge cost involved in managing the entire IT infrastructure themselves. Cloud computing would help us in bridging gap between digital libraries and IT. With the introduction of cloud computing, combined with the problems in digital library’s, this article discusses the application of cloud computing in digital libraries, and analyzes the advantages of building the digital libraries on the basis of cloud computing. The System, LibCloud has been designed and implemented to act as a private cloud for sharing digital resources among the registered users in a digital library for a period on subscription. This model implements a cloud based real time system that separates the role of the administrator, user and the service.
