A Novel Cluster Head Selection for Enhancing the Lifetime in Wireless Sensor Networks

P. Anbhazhagan, S. Nagarajan

Abstract

A wireless sensor networks are made up of sensors which are usually energy constrained one. The lifetime of the network is directly proportional to the energy efficiency of these nodes and hence a lot interest has been focused to effectively prolong the longevity of the individual node and network lifetime. Several WSN protocols and clustering algorithms have been proposed on how to optimally select the cluster heads in the sensor networks. In this paper EECHP protocol is proposed by combining the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm for enhancing the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. Experimental results show that the proposed approach EECHP protocol performs better than the ECHS, DECP and LEACH algorithms. A significant increase of network lifetime has been achieved and improved the First Node Death (FND) and Last Node Death (LND) respectively.
