Software Defined Networking Working Better Than Traditional Networking

Sourav Halder

Abstract

This electronic document is a “live” template and already defines the with the rapid development of science and technology, the old-fashioned network architectures cannot meet the various needs for modern life. Human want to change the current network architecture and set out to redraw a new architecture. The future network must have some properties. First is the underlying data plane which is dumb, simple, and minimal. Second one is the separation of control plane and data plane, the control plane which can completely control the entire network. Third one is the upper layer which provides a common application programming interface of external parts. In this way, researchers can program via calling API (application programming interface) on the control plane to achieve network innovation. [3]

Firstly, we discuss the need of SDN, the SDN basic architecture and how SDN works. Then, we move on to explain the use of Mininet virtual machine which is a network emulator consisting of numerous virtual hosts, switches, routers, all running on a single Linux kernel, working with few commands. It allows user to create, stimulate and test SDN networks. Mininet contains a default inbuilt controller which we have used for performing an experiment to prove whether SDN is better than traditional networking structure or not.
