Feedback Controller Design for Automatic Generation Control under Deregulated Environment

Abstract


In the power system, any sudden load perturbations cause the deviation of tie-line exchanges and the frequency fluctuations. So Automatic Generation Control [AGC] is very important for supplying electric power with good quality. In recent years, throughout the world, the electric power industry is moving towards a deregulated framework in which consumers will have an opportunity to make a choice among competing providers of electric energy. Deregulation is the collection of restructured rules and economic incentives that governments set up to control and drive the electric power industry. There are crucial differences between the AGC operation in a vertically integrated industry (conventional case) and horizontally integrated industry (new case). In the reconstructed power system after deregulation, operation, simulation and optimization have to be reformulated although basic approach to AGC has been kept the same. The main objectives of the proposed work are: 1. To optimize the integral controller gains and hence study the dynamic performance for a non reheat and reheat hydro-thermal system in the absence and presence of GRC. 2. To examine the importance of APF and to study the impact of DPM variation on electric governor parameters and integral controller gains for a reheat hydro-thermal system with and Without GRC.
