Overview on Spread Spectrum Telecommunication

Dilpreet Kaur Grover

Abstract

With the rapid and bursting advancement of communication science and related techniques, spread spectrum telecommunication has become an interested research topic in the engineering environment. For high degree of message security, and for reliable communication, spread spectrum telecommunication got an important place in today’s communication technologies. Therefore, to follow the trend, this paper presents a basic concept of spread spectrum telecommunication and also the techniques (direct sequence spread spectrum and frequency hopping spread spectrum) which are commonly being used in spread spectrum systems. The inherent advantages of these techniques to compensate for interference and multipath fading in wireless communication. This paper also includes the description of pseudonoise sequence which is used in spread spectrum techniques for spreading the spectrum of signal. There are many application fields for spreading the spectrum such as anti-jamming, interference rejection, low intercept probability, cryptographic capabilities, multipath suppression, high resolution ranging, accurate universal time etc.
