Effective Personal Digital Photo Semantic Management Using Ontology

Dr. Sunitha Abburu

Abstract

As digital cameras and storage devices are becoming cheaper day by day, the number of digital photos in a personal computer is increasing drastically. Photo retrieval based on the low level features is not user friendly. Users would like retrieve the digital photo by using the semantic of the photo. This raises the need for the semantic concept based digital photo retrieval. Effective and efficient semantic based digital photo retrieval has become a challenging issue. Ontology plays a vital role in semantic based retrieval. The current research focuses on construction of ontology that supports semantic based retrieval. Human beings and their relationships with other people plays vital role in every individual life. An ontology that supports knowledge representation of human relations is needed for effective semantic photo retrieval system. The current research focuses on high level representation of semantic concepts of digital photo. And the focus is on construction of human relationship ontology. The proposed approach is generic and flexible e and applicable to any type of photos. An ontology is constructed using an ontology development tool and future work is discussed at the end.
