Three Dimensional Couette Flow through a Porous Medium with Heat and Mass Transfer

M. Vidhya, Dr. Sundarammal Kesavan, Dr.A. Govindarajan

Abstract

A theoretical analysis of a couette flow of a viscous incompressible fluid through a porous medium between two infinite horizontal parallel porous flat plate with mass transfer is presented.  The stationary plate and the plate in uniform motion are subjected to transverse sinusoidal injection and uniform suction of the fluid.  The flow becomes three dimensional due to this type of injection velocity distribution.  The non linear partial differential equations are solved by using regular perturbation method and the expressions for the velocity and temperature fields are obtained. The effect of Schmidt number and modified Grashoff number on the velocity and temperature distribution are discussed numerically and shown through graphs.  The numerical values of Skin friction Coefficient and Nusselt number at the plate are derived and their numerical values are presented through graph.  It is found that the velocity profile increase with the increase of injection / suction parameter Re (or) an increase in Grashoff number for mass transfer (or) an increase in Schmidt number
