Intelligent Agents for Mobile Phones

Matthew Montebello

Abstract

The use of mobile phones has over the last decade intensified and proliferated to the extent that handheld devices have slowly but surely pervaded our lives and culture, in a ubiquitous way that the thought of managing without one is inconceivable. The functionality and capabilities offered over wireless devices is meant to facilitate people‟s life by efficiently assisting in the accomplishment of everyday activities as well as effectively performing tasks. The further employment of intelligent software agents on such devices takes advantage of this escalating phenomenon while at the same time optimising, as well as augmenting, their use, convenience and beneficial value. In this paper the rationale behind the deployment of a number of intelligent agents over mobile phones within a number of scenarios will be investigated and presented together with the techniques employed during the prototype testing, as well as results obtained.
