Review and Analysis of Macrocell Coverage Expansion Technologies

Seetaiah Kilaru, Adithya Gali

Abstract

The cellular traffic is increasing from time to time since beginning of 20th century. The existed cellular system in India was mostly Homogeneous. Handling future traffic with existed architecture is quite a challenging task. Replacement of current system and re-designing will involve huge capital. Network providers also don’t want to replace existed architecture. The current cellular architecture efficiency is poor with respect to the area of cell edge. This paper will discuss about possible emerging methodologies to expand the cell coverage. This extension is possible with heterogeneous networks. Deployment of Femto, relay and other devices within one macro cell will convert existed homogeneous environment to heterogeneous. This paper discussed about some useful deployment technologies which can increase spectral efficiency, coverage probability and provide effective traffic management at the edge of cell.
