An Effective Transmit Antenna Selection Algorithm in MIMO Communication System

MULTIPLE-INPUT-MULTIPLE-OUTPUT (MIMO) communication systems have received significant attention during recent years due to high capacity improvement that they can offer over single-input-single-output(SISO) systems. One concern when using the MIMO systems is the amount of hardware required for the radio frequency (RF) chains attached to each antenna which consists of expensive hardware blocks such as analog to digital converters, mixers and low noise power amplifiers. In this paper we propose a new effective transmit antenna selection algorithm to select transmit antennas so as to maximize the channel capacity and reduces cost and complexity of MIMO system compared with optimal and Gorokhov sub-optimal. The proposed algorithm also minimizes the correlation between channels.The performance in the proposed algorithm is very close to suboptimal while reducing the computational complexity. Our algorithm gives better performance in high SNR which is shown in the simulation result.
