Implementation of Error Detection and Correction Algorithms: Reed Solomon and Convolutional Coding in Wireless Transmission

S.D. Vijaykumar, D. Shanmuga Rajathi

Abstract

Data errors and their correction can be a possible problem with digital communication. In real world communication, errors are introduced in messages sent from one point to another. For this purpose, Reed- Solomon codes (RS) and Convolutional codes (CC) are the most widely used error correcting codes. When signal is transmitted over the channel, noise interferes with it. Error control coding uses channel encoder and decoder for ‗Error Detection & Correction‘. Wireless links can exhibit high error rates due to attenuation, fading, or interfering active radiation sources. To make matters worse, error rates can be highly variable due to changes in the wireless environment.
