Filter Designing with Microstrip Line using Metamaterials

Abstract


In this paper, a bandstop filter has been designed using a cylindrical shaped split ring resonator (SRR) that is a common work house for metamaterial and a microstrip transmission line resonating at 8.2 GHz, 6GHz, 5GHz, 4GHz and 3 GHz respectively with varying attenuations. It has also been observed that as the external radius of ring increases, resonating frequency decreases i.e. radius is inversely proportional to frequency. In simple words, only the radius of ring is to be changed with split gap, width of ring and other parameters constant. Firstly the ouput of RF signal will be observed without any SRR structure and then the effect of inserting SRR below the microstrip line will be in seen in terms of S12 parameter. These filters have a wide application in the field of wireless communication in RF front end devices.
