Impact of Adaptive Antenna System on Capacity in Cellular Systems

Abstract


Capacity is one of the important significant factors in determining the performance of a cellular system. In this paper, an analytical method is proposed to evaluate the capacity of WCDMA systems under co-channel-interference and the performance analysis with the use of adaptive antenna system. This method can be applied to the systems where the maximum number of interferers is known. In the proposed method probability of co-channel-interference is considered for capacity determination. Capacity results are evaluated and analyzed for WCDMA systems with different number of co-channel interferers, adaptive antenna and power control. The capacity of a WCDMA system can be improved with the use of adaptive antenna for a given probability of co-channel-interference. It is observed that the capacity increases from202.82Erlangs to 278.22Erlangsin a WCDMA cell with the proposed method.
