Sensor Mounting With Crawler as Non Destructive Testing for Pipeline Health Monitoring

Abstract


Pipeline corrosion is very common in oil ,gas, thermal and nuclear plants due to stress corrosion, considered as a challenge for pipeline industry, as it leads to poor reliability of the system, sometimes, leading to loss of working days to the extent of seven to ten days. Hence considerable efforts are being made to develop a suitable solution so that pipeline works smoothly without any interuption due to corrosion. Inspection service with robotics is considered innovative technique in non destructive testing to have desirable output. The robotic pipe scanner is the latest battery powered tool and self propelled with a 3600 coverage area of steel pipelines, for example product lines, flow lines or water lines around or inside the oil and natural gas refineries. Robotics Pipe Scanner (RPS) is designed to provide an intelligent and in-service inspection of un-piggable pipelines. This system is highly integrated designed and fully supported to the wireless operations, which allows in-service inspection at an excellent rate. These robotics onsite inspections bypass the manual one where we need installation such as pipe supports, thus facilitating the effective monitoring of a huge amount of pipelines. In case of hanging pipes and uplifted pipes, inspection remote pipe scanner system becomes a successful tool now a days. A proper combination of robotic, automated and ultrasonic testing is considered as a non destructive testing for a pipeline health monitoring as presented in this paper.
