Abstract

3-D scanner is a system that evaluates a real world object and translates them into a virtual 3-D object. The associated data will then be used to build digital, 3-dimensional models helpful for wide range of applications. These devices are extensively used in different applications such as 3-D printing, entertainment industry, gaming, cartoons etc. In this project, 3-D modeling system is structured on triangulation based platform using image processing and LASER line extraction from images. The third dimension of system shows an effective role in the analysis of both dynamic & static environments. Thus, developing a reliable real-time 3-D scanning system is very challenging. This 3-dimensional LASER scanner system is used to obtain 3-D model using LASER line from sequence of 2-D images. In this 3-D LASER scanner, we show that image acquisition and 3-D reconstruction can be achieved in real time using low cost solutions. The LASER based 3-D scanners are excellent and rapid to reconstruct 3-D object geometry with minute details.
