A Novel Coupled Inductor based Wide Input Wide Output DC-DC Converter

S. Elavarasi, K. Dhayalini

Abstract

In order to cater the needs of battery–operated equipment which require high voltage boosting, a new wide input wide output (WIWO) DC-DC converter was designed with an integration of buck and boost converter via coupled inductors. Coherent working from stepping down to stepping up can be achieved by proper control scheme. Due to the coupled inductors, wide-step-up and wide-step-down dc-dc conversions are realized. A lossless clamp circuit is also applied to store the leakage current so that the turn-off voltage spike of the active switch can be clamped. Simulation results for 12 V - 48 V input to 28 V output dc-dc conversions are carried by performing simulation and verified with the hardware setup.
