Real Time Vehicle Theft Detection System

Abstract


The crime related to vehicle theft has seen an immense increase over the past few years, with thieves and intruders getting smarter and finding more ways to steal vehicles it has become a serious and expensive problem. And on top of that, there is no right system implemented to stop this crime. This calls for a desperate need to implement an effective and cheap theft detection system. In this paper, we have explained about our system that prevents vehicle theft and how it has been implemented. Our system basically, is a cheap and compact solution that has been developed with immense and high-quality research. We have used Raspberry-Pi as the main processing system which is integrated with Linux that collects the sensor data from the PIR sensor and the gas sensor. The GPS, camera and buzzer are also implemented in the same. Our system operates in two modes- User mode and theft mode. The system can detect intrusion and when detected it will send a sound alert and send a message via SMS or mail to the owner’s phone with the vehicle coordinates to alert the owner. The device will notify the owner via SMS about the vehicle’s longitude and latitudinal whereabouts in case the system is dislocated or intruded with. It also captures an image of the intruder with the pi-camera module in the scenario of vehicle theft, the vehicle can be effortlessly dislocated without turning it on or disabling the vehicle locks. The vehicle can be easily located using this system on Google Maps. We have made a sincere attempt to investigate and consider the possibility of a compact, efficient, cheap and effective vehicle theft detection system.
