A Study on Diopside (CaMgSi2O6) as a Bone Implant Synthesis, Fabrication

Abstract


The development of biomaterials for orthopedic and dental implants with improved properties and durability in the human body is highly critical. Broadly speaking, the first-generation of biomaterials was bio-inert, whereas bio-active and bioresorbable materials represented improved, second-generation materials. The challenge facing the development of improved orthopedic and dental biomaterials for the future is to design materials that are biocompatible, capable of bearing high stress and loads, and that invoke positive cellular and genetic responses for the rapid repair, modification, regeneration and maintenance of the affected tissue in the human body. The thickness of coatings was found to 385µm after heat treatment. The present experimental investigation has proved that CaMgSi2O6 coatings on Ti-6Al-4V alloy can be a viable material for load bearing orthopedic applications.
