Innovative and Smart Technologies in Logistics - Review

Abstract


Technology and Innovation are increasingly considered as key enablers of all types of business competitive advantage in all sectors, including logistics. In today's competitive business environment, innovation and speed are the key factors for all the business processes, and any business ignores the value of current information technology will not able to sustain in the current markets as their business process would be inefficient and ineffective. The logistics industry is considered a massive market, and forms the largest industry worldwide, according to recent studies by practitioners and researchers, and its effect in a wide range in all types of business. The paper will review the impact of innovation and smart technologies as basic factors in the logistics industry, and how the advances in Information Technology can result in remarkable advance the process in logistics through synchronizing all activities to respond to the new competitive power in the current market. The outcome of this paper gives a great indication about the role of innovation and smart technologies that could advance the logistics process in the current business environment. The conclusion can inspire future research to increase the knowledge of technology-led logistics process, and to use as input for future decision making by firms whose ambitions to have great results in the logistics industry.
