Modeling and Identification of Accident Prone Spots based on Road Prioritization using GIS

Shraddha K. Popat

Abstract

India is experiencing increasing road traffic injuries amidst increasing motorization and urbanization in recent years. Every day, nearly enormous deaths occur on Indian roads and several are hospitalized due to road crashes. Recognizing the severity of the problem many initiatives are taken by the government and WHO to reduce the number of road casualties. The transportation framework has proven to be prime factors around financial development of the country affecting the annual GDP of our country Be that as it may, but day by day increase in road mishaps are becoming disaster to safety of transportation hampering the routine life. GIS have considered being the emerging trends in revolutionizing the whole frame work of traffic analysis and reduction in no. of accidents. The worldwide statistics show that the accidents caused due to licensed vehicles are high in developing countries of which road crashes have been appeared to cost around 1% of yearly GDP. This paper also aims to describe a web mapping technique which could act as an assistance in analyzing traffic and reducing no. of accidents.
