The Value of the Warehouse from the Pay and Training Aspects - Organizations in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Dr. Ali Mohamed Abbas Kamali

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the value and importance of the function of warehouse / stores (as they are used interchangeably in Bahrain) in organizations in the kingdom of Bahrain.  Throughout my experience in the warehouse, it has been noticed that the function is considered low value  amongst other functions, and staff who run the department are paid least salary compared to staff in other departments.  The main objective of this paper is to investigate the warehouse function from pay and training  aspects. This is a very focused study looking for specific information relevant to the study topic.  The paper relied on both qualitative and quantitative methods through collecting the data relevant  to the paper topic using the survey approach with employees in the warehouse and the semi-structured interview with the Human Resource Department (HRD) in three organizations. Obtaining views from both HRD and the employees in the warehouse function concluded that  there is a gap between employees' expectation and organizations' policy & procedures, and  there is also a gap in communication between employees and HRD.
