Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study and understand the various Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques that are used in the field of solar power generation. As the usage of fossil fuels is increasing rapidly from day to day this increase in demand is leading to environmental pollution and threats. In order to reduce this, the solution is found in the field of renewable energy. As the solar energy is the most used source to extract power from the solar rays, in order to extract more power from the solar the MPPT techniques have been implemented. This MPPT plays an important role in photovoltaic systems to extract more power. This paper presents an overview detail on different maximum power point tracking methods like Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) method, Short Circuit Current (SCC) method, perturbation and Observation (P&O) method, Incremental conductance (INC) method and Hill Climbing (HC) method.

Keywords

Open Circuit Voltage (OCV), Short Circuit Current (SCC), Incremental Conductance (INC), Perturbation and Observation (P&O), Hill Climbing (HC), Photovoltaic Cell, MPPT.
